Today it is beautiful out! Wish I wasn't so tired I would do alittle something outside. We have had a busy week. Austin had his pinewood derby race at scouts. He didn't win a trophy but I told him he was already a winner in my heart! Yesterday, Allen and I went antigue shopping and then we went to Cheddars for lunch. It was a great day but very tiring. Allen got a booth and is going to start his hobbly of collecting and selling military knives, he really enjoys that. We also have a new addition to the family, his name is Ringo and he is 6 weeks old. He is a rescue kitty and very sweet! I am trying to get on at the hospital as a volunteer, don't know what I will be doing yet. I have been busy today getting chores caught up and am wearing out quick! I was outside awhile ago and noticed my lilies were coming up..........spring is here!
Take care and God Bless!

HAPPY EASTER!
Today has been a pretty good although Allen had to work, but Austin still had a good Easter! He got lots of goodies and has been eating candy all day.............boy will the teacher appreciate me tomorrow! We have spent the day playing Uno and with his Bop Superman that he got. He got a kite to but no wind to fly it. Barb brought us down some ham, dressing, potatoes and choclate cake for dinner, that was very good. Allen is bring pizza home for supper and Austin said this has been a really good Easter so that is what counts.
Take care and God Bless!

Today is another cold, dreary and rainy day. Mom and I took Austin to Walmart in Buffalo, he wanted to get Allen something for Easter. He got him a big Easteregg with 4 hotwheels cars in it. It may be a collector someday, who knows! We got some stuff to color eggs, so that will be our project tomorrow. He is excited about Easter. I got him stuff and made a basket up with Easter candy, Uno game, a kite, bubbles, a mindteaser puzzle and a bop bag. Then on Easter we are going to have a Easter hunt for him. He will have a good time! Allen was on his way out the door this morning and our cat Tommy got out. We haven't seen him since, hopefully he will get hungry and show back up. I have enough to keep up with the animals that we got. Sinnamon and the guinea pigs keep me pretty busy. Austin has enjoyed his spring break, he is learning to use the camcorder and make videos...................he is SOOOOOOO funny! He made a tape of what he calls the "Funny Farm" while we still sleeping early one morning, he got Allen snoring. Allen came home in a sour mood but after watching that tape he just about rolled in the floor laughing. I need to go do some housework.
Take care and God Bless!

Today has been a VERY long day! Allen had his mechanical x-rays and MRI of his back. We were there for 5 hours, Austin was wonderful! As many people also commented on his excellent behavior. He enjoyed the snack machines though! Allen told me he is going to have to start proofreading my posts as I don't often see what I write as a threat to someone else or mean any harm, I am just simply posting my thoughts, feelings and progression of all of this. I reread what I write many, many times and it sounds perfectly fine to me but the flaws are often found. Oh well, it I didn't have any problems then I wouldn't be here doing this in the first place. If it doesn't rain tomorrow maybe I can get some more seeds planted. Dementia Rescue is really growing.............88 strong! In 3 months, I think that is pretty good and the community seems to be offering the support that is needed. If you would like to visit or join: www.groups.yahoo.com/group/dementiarescue

I have a couple of days to catch up here. We had a beautiful weekend! I have been busy getting my flower gardens in. Last night and today we finished up Austin's pine wood derby car. It looks sharp! I just know he has a winner! The race is next Monday night. Today we raked some leaves up to get some more flower beds ready. I got an e-mail from a friend in my support group that one of the members was not recovering well from a hospital stay and will be going to a nursing home in a couple of days. My prayers are with him and his family. As my comprehension and perception fails me so does my ability to communicate and understand conversations as I once did. Judee said, "she would be here for the rest of my life." She understands the disease process and is able to understand and distinquish what is the person and what is the disease. It has been dreary most of the day and it is suppose to rain tomorrow too. Austin is on spring break this week so we will see what else we can get into over the next couple of days. I do enjoy having him home from school, he keeps me on my toes. Until next time, take care and God bless!

Well the week seems to be settling in alittle better than it started. Yesterday was a busy day as well as anymore normal confusion for me. The guinea psigs weren't looking well and Allen told me to call the vet and make an appointment, so I did and I then took them in. The vet scraped their skin to check for ringworm and parasites and it all came back clean. I told him about me changing their diet.........not a good thing! Thet were vitamin and mineral deficient so he told me how to correct this with adding oil to their food and cit. C to their water. Then they each got to injections in their tiny little thighs. Needless to say, for awhile they were not happy campers! I made it up to them today with some fresh grapes, apples and peaches. They were slurping away on them a minute ago. Then I cleaned up and redid a flower garden. I planted sweet peas...........they are very pretty and smell so good when they bloom. Then I baked some chicken for supper. All of this and I thought it was a great day............NOT! I was not suppose to take the pigs to the vet.............didn't have a co-pilot and I was not suppose to bake chicken............didn't realize that it counted as fire on the stove. So, yes I accomplished alot, but I had trouble getting back home.........took a scenic route and I burned the chicken. However, if you like chicken jerky then it isn'y bad! I called and spoke to a very good friend of mine named Judee. We talked about the changes and progression. Thank God she understands me AND this disease. She gave me some insight which I tried to share with Allen, but had forgotten most of by the time he got home. So, after all of this our dry erase board now has a couple more of reminders on it. Allen and I, had our evening cry ritual and talked about continuing advocating for as long as I can. He assured me that after I was gone, he would continue where I left off. I told him that he didn't have to do this for me, but to go on and start fresh so to speak. But he said that , that is how he would carry on is fighting for the disease that stole his wife from him. Today, I am going to plant another flower garden and before long this place will be beautiful!
Take care and God Bless!

It has been a rough week! To sum it up rather quickly, I had a doctor visit in which he said that I am progressing and I need to let Allen have more control so to speak and quit trying to be super woman! I am finding it easier to let go of some things and I will continue to hang on to what I can still do best and that is be an advocate of this horrific disease. The weekend plans have changed, we are not going to California..................long story! Probably would have been an earthquake any way. So, we are going to hang aroung the house and get some trees and stuff cleaned up in the field. Allen was able to save his vacation days that he took off for this weekend. Thank God he has an understanding boss.
He had a doctor visit yesterday and he is scheduled for an open MRI and mechanical lumbar X-rays next week. He may be having back surgery after we get back from D.C. I say that becasue he won't have a follow up visit until just a couple of days before we go to D.C. So, he may get an extended vacation. I am now finding that people that I thought were there for me, really are not. When you truly need them and they feel they are going to have to give something of themselves they quickly find an exit. I had heard this from many other's that have dementia but some reason I thought I was lucky. Seems like it is going to be a role reversal for awhile..............I will have to be the carepartner. I truly believe God will watch over us and keep us safe for he knows my limits.
Take care and God Bless!

I have been trying to get rested up from Jeff City on Monday and Tuesday...........this really wore me out, I don't know how I am going to manage Washington D.C. I guess the good Lord will continue to carry me as he has been through all of this. Today it is so cold and windy out! I hoped to work in the yard but instead decided to stay in and started some starter tomato plants in those little jiffy containers. I have been getting the little things caught up. I talked to Dave my publisher yesterday. He said the pictures for I Remember When came out really beautiful and he should have a rough draft to me in about 2 weeks or so. I think we are goin to go with a 6x9 that seems to be the standard in childrens books. He says they have already started marketing with local hospitals and Scholastic, that is so cool! I need to settle down and get finished up on the last book, it is still a while off yet 6-9 months or so. This weekend we plan on working outside and getting things picked up and making it look like spring around here. I can't beleive this year is already a third of the way over! Tomorrow is my SIL Donnas birthday, we are going up to mom's house for cake and ice-cream..................yyyyyuuuuummmmmmm!
Take care and God Bless!

Monday was a long day as we headed up to Jefferson City. After we got there we checked into our room which was just about 2 blocks over from the Capitol. We went and had diiner at Ponderosa and then to the movies and saw Pacifer. It was pretty funny! We got back to the room it was dark and when you looked over at the Capitol the lights looming around it where so pretty, such a soft glow of warmth. Then we went into wind down for the night except I couldn't seem to wind down so we went to the Leopard Lounge and had a couple of drinks and that seemed to help.

Memory Day
We got to the Capitol at about 9:15 and meet in Representative Connie Johnsons office and soon we were escourted by our local County Representative Mike Cunningham. He was a really warm person and gave a fairly quick but awesome tour of the Capital taking us into the Session Room where we would meet again later. Then he showed us all of the creativity and artwork that was surrounded by those beautifully enhanced stone and marble walls. Soon it was time to go back to the Senate Session Room where the ceremony would begin. There was 5 special acknowledgements with me being 1 of them. It was quite an honor when I was presented the Proclamation Award of Advocacy for Alzheimer's Disease by the House Speaker and I presented him with a copy of Young Hope. It was an HONOR! After the session was over, we met up with our group in the Rotunda to prepare for our legislative visits. The opening statement was given by our Chapter Patty Ingle. I seen many acquaintances form the past year and embarrassed to admit but i did not remember some as I felt I should have. Then we had lunch and wrapped up the day. As Allen and I were walking back to the car, I said to him, "I don't remember seeing some of the group at the beginning until the end." He assured me that they were there the whole time. As we don't get to pick and choose what we remember with this disease, I do hope this is one that I don't soon forget!

It has been a busy week! Austin had a cub scout ceremony Monday night we had a dinner and he earned to awards the communication pin and the bobcat patch. We had dinner we the scouts, Donna my SIL went with us it was really alot of fun. Seems like my days are kind of getting out os order as I don't journal like I use to, so if you feel lost in your reading don't feel bad, I am lost in my writing. Saturday a couple of Austin's friends spent the night. Matthew and Justin they are brothers about a year apart but they are as different as night and day. Matthew and Austin are best friends and Justin likes to tag after his brother though he gets so bored because they don't have the same things in common. Austin has a couple of jobs to apply for this morning and then we are going to be leaving for Jeff City. It is going be a long couple of days.

Another week almost to the end. The other day we took Austin in town to the Race Way Center with his truck that he got for Christmas, once we finally got it going it was a real blast! We met a couple there with kids and made some friends to look forward to meeting there next time. We are going to make it a weekend event when Allen is off. At one time there was about 6 or 7 cars and trucks blasting around the speedway, it was a lot of fun! I have busy this week trying to stay up on the house hold chores and have accomplished a few things. We have to go into the Chapter tomorrow and pick up our packet of information for Jefferson City on Tuesday. We are leaving on Monday to be recognized by the Speaker of the House. I can't seem to find the excitement in it, but I am being told that it is quite an honor to do that. So, we will just go with the flow. Austin has a friend coming over to spend the night with him on Saturday. They always have fun to gether, so he is excited about that. Well I guess this is all of the exciting news for today.
Take care and God Bless!
